Definition & Why It Matters
A CPU temperature monitor is a tool—such as CPU Monitor—that reads your processor’s current and peak temperature and shows it in real time, often with graphs and alerts.
Why CPU temperature matters
- Thermal throttling: when a chip gets too hot it slows itself down to cool off, which you feel as lag and stutter.
- Longevity: sustained high heat stresses components over years.
- Diagnostics: a sudden temperature spike can reveal a stuck fan, heavy background process, or a demanding app.
How monitoring works
The app reads sensor values exposed by the system and plots them. On Android, CPU Monitor also shows per-core load, frequency, and battery temperature so you can see exactly what is heating the device. Monitoring alone does not cool the phone—but it tells you when to close an app, take a break, or check cooling, before performance drops.
